Days 53 & 54 - On the rather grey Atlantic Ocean

A fairly typical couple of sea days so not really too much to report.

We didn’t win morning trivia but were happy enough with 17/20.

We decided to attend the dance class with John Graham.  Obviously a very competent instructor but we already knew the basic waltz anyway.  The session started with a warm up with a couple of progressive dances but we then sat down to watch.  We recognized one or two from past cruises who had no concept of keeping to time then – and  haven’t improved since.
We didn’t win afternoon trivia either, as it was all about the Titanic and had been set by the Historical Society of Cobh.  A score of 15.5 out of 20 wasn’t bad, thanks to Darryl and Sue who had been to the Titanic exhibition at Cobh.

A formal night with an opportunity to show off my bargain UK purchase – a new dinner jacket.  Captain’s welcome aboard party, but sadly, Captain Pickford was unable to attend - and no, he wasn’t sea-sick.  That was just a cruel rumour.

Another good meal with the usual excellent Princess lobster bisque and very nice steak.

On to the Vista lounge for the comedian, Kelly Monteith.  No tired internet jokes thank goodness, just the usual ‘observations on life’ type of presentation.  We thoroughly enjoyed it but having a box seat, it was obvious that some people didn’t laugh out loud at all.  Typical of many comedians, very much a matter of personal opinion.

Clocks another hour back tonight, so we are getting used to 25 hour days and preferable to the many 23 hour days when travelling the other way.

Thursday July 17th

A grey day with a stiff wind and a fair bit of ship movement so deck 7’s promenade area was closed, forcing people indoors.

No, we still didn’t win trivia, morning or afternoon.

Our midday coffee had to be on deck 7 as with most typical sea days, deck 5 was busy. It was a bit too strong for Paula and she was a bit off colour after that, especially combined with the ship’s movement.

A light lunch at 2pm or so and apart from trivia, (where we scored a massive 6/20 in the afternoon), we really didn’t do much at all after that.  Paula opted to have her evening meal in the cabin, from the buffet, so I delivered hers, then as it was Italian night again, with an identical menu to that salty one on the Emerald, I opted for the buffet too – but missed the eggplant dish.  Drat.

Clocks back 1 hour again tonight, but at least today, I managed to upload the previous blogs to date.  No idea when this or subsequent blogs will be uploaded.  Maybe not until Boston when the pressure on the Princess bandwidth is reduced - or it may be a case of taking the laptop ashore again?

We have booked the 8:45am ‘Trolley Tour’ for Boston, expecting delays dealing with US face to face immigration if not on an official Princess Tour.  It is a Ho-Ho trolley taking around 2 hours, so we’ll just have to see if we can spot Julie, Paul and the kids who are around Boston somewhere…
